The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Sets May 2014 Release Date![]()
With roughly 11 months to go before audiences see a single frame of Marc Webb’s anticipated The Amazing Spider-Man, Sony cast a serious vote of confidence in the franchise’s direction by announcing a release date for what’s tentatively being titled The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The sequel to the reboot will open in theaters on May 2, 2014, according to Deadline, though I’d advise you to document both the title and the release date in pencil because so much can change between now and then. Don’t believe me? Ask Superman and those dueling Snow White movies, all three of which are just a few of the blockbusters that had their release dates shifted around the schedule after staking claim to a weekend years in advance. What won’t change, apparently, is the studio’s opinion of the work Webb is doing with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man. Though the report doesn’t mention whether Webb will return for the sequel, Garfield and Stone are signed on for multiple installments, and a Sony executive tells Deadline, “I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment." So let the speculation begin. Will Rhys Ifans’ The Lizard live to fight another day? Does Spidey take on a villain we’ve yet to see on screen, including the ones portrayed in the Sam Raimi trilogy? Does Webb get another shot? And if the studio wants to stick with titles inspired by the original comics, does Sony go with The Spectacular Spider-Man or Web of Spider-Man for the sequel? |
