The Avengers Will Assemble At New York Comic Con, Plus Full Schedule Announced
New York's annual Comic Con has never had the scope or sheer size of the massive San Diego version, and it will probably never attract movie studios in drove the way they fly to San Diego every summer. But for this year's Con, which kicks off October 13 in Manhattan, will boast the most important movie studio there is for comics geeks: Marvel Studios. The studio behind next summer's The Avengers will take over the enormous IGN Theater on Saturday, October 15 at pm; at the official New York Comic Con website, they're boasting "never-before-seen footage and appearances by special surprise guests" at the hour-long panel.
The Marvel presentation will be by far the biggest for movie fans at the Con, though other film panels include conversations with the cast of the upcoming Red Tails, a spotlight on this summer's Conan the Barbarian, and for some reason, a panel dedicated to Essential Killing, Vincent Gallo's extremely divisive festival sensation. John Landis will also be on hand to talk about his new book Monsters in the Movies, Mark Hamill is doing a panel, and well-connected fan site TheOneRing.net will be talking about the development of the two new Hobbit movies. You can see the full list of Movies content here.
TV fans will have a little more to choose from, including two different panels from Marvel Television, one of them devoted entirely to anime. There will also be another massive panel for The Walking Dead, a presentation from the Robot Chicken gang, and Mike Judge will be on hand to present a sneak peek at the return of Beavis and Butthead, who will be back on MTV starting October 27. You can see the full TV lineup here.
I'll be on hand to cover New York Comic Con this year for the fourth year in a row, so check back in mid-October for as much coverage as I can possibly handle.
