The first trailer for Mel Gibson’s The Beaver has arrived and, it’s not what I expected at all. I’d wager it’s not what you’d expected either. From the description, weird though it was, the film sounded like it might make sense as a dramedy, or a dark comedy, or even a weird romantic romp. Instead, from the tone of The Beaver's trailer, it’s more of a preachy, pretentious, Oscar-bait indie movie… and not a very good one at that.

It’s hard to make a movie in which man walks around with a Beaver puppet on his hand seem boring but I’d say The Beaver has pulled it off. Watch the trailer below or in HD on Apple.

Mel Gibson needs a comeback role and, I’m pretty sure this isn’t it. The Beaver seems eager to dish out sanctimonious life lessons and pretty much the last person anyone wants to take life advice from right now is Mel Gibson. What do you think?
