The Company of Mammals

By Rafe Telsch: 2005-10-20 00:00:00
The Company of Mammals It’s not enough that trailers for Ice Age 2 started hitting theaters and the internet months ago. Now Fox has to draw out the hype for the sequel even more by slowly leaking the stars who will lend their voices to the film. Today’s USA Today started Fox’s advertising machine rolling with an early look at the sequel’s cast and story.

The four main stars of the first film, Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and the voiceless Scrat will all return to continue their antics from the first film. This time around they will be carrying around a doomsday message about a potential global thaw. At the same time, they will be attempting to locate more mammoths to prove to Manny he’s not alone in the world.

Joining the characters will be Seann William Scott and Josh Peck, playing Crash and Eddie, a “pair of playful possum brothers who drive the others crazy”. That’s quite an accomplishment from a film that features Leguizamo in a lead role. Along with Crash and Eddie is Ellie voiced by Queen Latifah. Ellie thinks she’s a possum but she’s really - are you ready for this? - a mammoth! I see the story falling together already. Finally Jay Leno joins the cast as Fast Tony, a shady used care salesman style armadillo.

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown hits theaters in March. The next press release no-doubt comes along whenever the buzz from this one dies down.
