The first trailer for The Debut has just been released and at first it may seem a lot like the excellent Eric Bana movie Munich. Then there’s a secret. It’s the story of a group of Mossad agents sent to capture and bring to trial a notorious Nazi war criminal. They achieve their objective, something goes horribly wrong, and they keep it secret for decades until something causes it to resurface.

The movie appears to take place both in the present and the past. The trailer flips back and forth between the two with Sam Worthington, Martin Csokas, and Jessica Chastin playing the three agents as young people capturing the Nazi killer and then Ciaran Hinds, Tom Wilkinson, and a facially scarred Helen Mirren playing the same people at a ripe old age. There’s potential here, more than there’s been in anything else director John Madden has done since Shakespeare in Love.
