The Historian Brings Vampires![]()
It’s been a while since we’ve had a vampire movie set in the modern day. I mean, aside from Underworld, Underworld 2, the Russian Nightwatch, the Blade saga, there just haven’t been many modern vampire tales. Oh – and let’s not forget “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” on television. So you can see the need for another modern day Vampire tale. Fortunately Sony Pictures is fixing that need with an adaptation of the Elizabeth Kostova novel, The Historian.
The novel tells the story of a young woman searching for her father. He, in turn, is searching for the grave of Vlad the Impaler, who you might know better as Dracula – the legendary figure was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for the classic vampire novel. Aladdin voice actor Brad Kane has been given the assignment of adapting the novel for the screen. This is not Kane’s first writing assignment. According to Variety, he has “widely read” scripts circulating Hollywood. Note, however, that “widely read” does not equal “in production.” If the scripts are being read but not produced, there has to be some issue with them, however they must be good enough for him to get this job. This isn’t Kane’s first run in with vampires either. Kane provided the singing voice for Jonathon Levinson on the aforementioned “Buffy” series and played Tucker, a one shot character whose brother came back to torment Buffy later in the series. |
