The Hunger Games Viral Site Goes Live: What's Your District?![]()
The first teaser for The Hunger Games is going very, very light on the details, and apparently that's a strategy being taken by the film's first viral site as well. Surf on over to TheCapitol.pn if you want to take part by giving them your twitter information and having the chance to blast to all your twitter followers "The Capitol knows who I am. Identify yourself immediately: http://thecapitol.pn #whatsmydistrict." There's also a shaky, noisy image of…. something. And that's all she wrote.
Obviously this is the beginning of some larger viral campaign, probably one that will reveal the logo-- which I'm guessing is the logo of the Capitol-- and maybe more images or even footage from the film. And I admit, I'm curious to be assigned a District, one of the 12 areas of the country in Suzanne Collins's novel that each represent a different function in keeping the country, Panem, running. The Hunger Games is set in a dystopic, future version of the United States, where nuclear war and global warming have caused the country to completely fall apart and be reformed as a dictatorship run by a brutal Capitol. Our heroine Katniss is from the coal mining region of District 12 (our modern day equivalent to West Virginia), and my homeland in the South is generally represented by District 11, which is responsible for agriculture. If you're an East Coaster, be warned-- that's the province of District 13, which was blown off the map during the great nuclear wars that led to Panem's creation. I'll let you know if I ever get assigned a district and if this viral site morphs into anything soon, but if you're a Hunger Games fanatic dying for more info, I'd keep an eye on this site. |
