The MPAA Attacks Kevin Smith’s Zack And Miri Trailer![]()
The MPAA is at it again. If ever there was an organization which is truly pure evil, this is it. This time they’ve set their stifling sights on Kevin Smith, and they’re attacking him for that awesome Zack and Miri Make a Porno teaser trailer he made available online last week. They’ve forced him to remove the trailer from his website because quite simply, he didn’t ask for their permission to advertise his movie.
Kevin explains the situation on his website here, but what it boils down to is this: The trailer contains absolutely no footage from the film, it’s only been released on the internet, and Kevin has done this many times before for other movies, and no one has said a word about it. This time though, the ever more powerful MPAA latched on and had him rip it down. The movie is a Weinstein Company film, the Weinstein Company is a member of the MPAA, so the MPAA basically gets whatever it wants if TWC wants its movies rated in the future. Kevin seems to think the problem isn’t so much that they didn’t get their hands on it as that it contains material they don’t like. He says, “I guess since the teaser was so, shall we say, racy… a rating was in order.” Probably. We do have to protect all the children who are fans of Kevin Smith after all. And nothing protects children from watching things on the internet better than a letter rating before whatever it is they’re watching. Wait… wha? Personally I just think they didn’t take kindly to him mocking them with that fun, silly, fake rated “X” rating at the end of the trailer. The MPAA has absolutely no sense of humor… or morals or sense of decency. Just a lusty hunger for more power and control. |
