Audiences have always liked the idea of God coming down to Earth and hanging out with the rest of us. For some reason it's funny. To me the best work in that vein was George Burns' series of Oh God movies, the first of which debuted in 1977. Burns was old before I was even a twinkle in my mother's eye, so as a kid born in 77', to me those were always his definitive works. More recently we've seen the genre done well in Bruce Almighty, and there's already a sequel to it starring Steve Carell on the way, in which Carell is commanded to pull a Noah and build an ark in modern times.

Well, now there's even more of the "what if God was one of us" genre on the way. The Hollywood Reporter says New Line Cinema has picked up the rights to a comedy called God, the Devil, and Lucy. The film paints the Lord and his arch rival Satan as a celestial version of Hitch when Beelzebub and the Supreme One decide to settle their age old quarrel by competing for the love of one woman. They must become normal men and win her heart without using any of their powers. Whoever gets her to say "I love you" first wins. Expect cheating from the father of the lie.

Of course the problem with all of this is that God historically doesn't take kindly to heavenly folk assuming human form in order to screw hot mortal women. According to Biblical cannon, that's how the Dark One ended up with all of his demon minions in the first place. But then what's the point in being all-powerful if you can't cruise bars as Brad Pitt once in awhile?
