MOVIE NEWS
The Money Goes Iron![]()
Jon Favreau already has a history with Marvel Comics. After all, he appeared in Ben Affleck’s career killing Daredevil movie. I think anyone involved with that film deserves some credit from Marvel, so it’s no surprise to see Favreau attached to a new Marvel movie.
Just about everybody is announcing Favreau’s attachment to Marvel’s upcoming Iron Man movie, which has been announced as the actor/writer/director’s next film. What happened to John Carter of Mars for Ain’t It Cool News mogul Harry Knowles? We don’t know, and AICN is being quiet on the subject, barely saying more than “Fav’s directing Iron Man” on their site. Favreau will develop and direct the movie, based on the Marvel comics character, although the script will be written by written by Arthur Marcum and Matt Hollaway (Convoy). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Favreau is already talking about turning his back on his traditional claim of not using much CGI. ”I think that now, through motion-capture and the integration of miniatures with CGI, like in 'King Kong,' I'm starting to be a lot more convinced by what the technology can do. But the idea of using CGI and relying solely on that to tell your story, those days are past. I think that integrating practical filmmaking and augmenting it with CGI is the key to making it an emotionally involved story.” Interesting, since some special effects gurus have called Favreau on actually using more CGI effects than he claimed. As mentioned, Iron Man will be Favreau’s next film with hopes of filming starting next year. The movie has been tossed around before, previously by New Line cinema, with names like Tom Cruise being considered to play Tony Stark, the man behind the armor – a billionaire genius who originally developed the armor to keep himself alive, but eventually turned to fighting crime while fighting demons of alcoholism in his personal life. Here’s hoping Favreau will find the best person for the job, and really hoping that it won’t be Daredevil Ben Affleck. |
