The New A-Team Is Too Violent For Mr. T
I'm seeing The A-Team tonight and hoping against hope that it will be the kind of ridiculous escapist fun that this summer has sorely lacked so far. Unfortunately there's already someone around to rain on my parade, and it's Mr. T. WENN is reporting (read the full story here) that Mr. T said the new movie "is nothing like the show we turned out every week," and that it was too graphic for him. Here's the full quote:
"People die in the film and there's plenty of sex but when we did it, no one got hurt and it was all played for fun and family entertainment. These seem to be elements nobody is interested in anymore. It was too graphic for me. I've no doubt it will do big business at the box office but it's nothing like the show we turned out every week."
By most accounts Mr. T is a peaceful and God-loving guy these days, which might explain why a PG-13 Hollywood movie with cartoony explosions will be too violent for him. But maybe he does have a point in criticizing a movie that will inevitably be aimed toward families and young-ish kids, much in the way the original series was. Mr. T probably shouldn't become your most trusted movie critic, but if something is too violent for B.A. Baracus, you might want to think twice about taking your 8-year-old after all.
