We’ve gone from super cheesy with Spider-Man 3, to a more serious twist with Dark Knight to taking a turn for the ominous with the upcoming film The Watchman. Now, it looks like comic book movies are going for pure horror with The Night Projectionist. According to HR, the comic book company Studio 407 is working to make this comic miniseries into a feature film.

The collection, written by Bob Heske, tells the story of an 18th century Romanian village conducting the execution of a young girl accused of setting off a vampire plague. Now, shift to the present, where a number of people are attending a Halloween Dracula-thon film festival. All of these moviegoers think the horrors will end when the credits roll, but little do they know the projectionist is actually a vampire himself. They are trapped in the theater at the mercy of this hungry beast.

With film production plans announced, you’d think the comic would already have a loyal fan base. The first issue of the series isn’t even expected to hit stores until February. But Studio 407 must have some idea what it’s doing because it’s established a first-look deal with Myriad. This arrangement has already been set into motion pre-production efforts on Hybrid, which has also yet to reach stands.

You can check out a preview of The Night Projectionist on Studio 407’s website. It provides a short introduction to the story and a preview of the first issue. By the looks of The Night Projectionist, we may see comic book movies tossing the spandex in exchange for some blood and gore.
