The Office Veteran Charles McDougall Directing Steve Carell In Burt Wonderstone![]()
He's already filming his final appearances as Michael Scott on The Office, and Steve Carell is quickly filling up his schedule as he moves on from TV star to full-time movie actor. One of the project he's had lined up since last fall is Burt Wonderstone, a comedy about a magician who has to rediscover his love of the trade when he's overshadowed by younger competition. WIth the project set to start shooting in the fall, it now finally has a director. THR reports that Charles McDougall, who has directed Carell on several episodes of The Office, will take over as director.
McDougall has two previous feature directing credits, the 1990 football hooligan film Arrivederci Millwall and 1999's horror film Heart. But for the most part he's had a strong TV career, helming episodes of Queer As Folk, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives and of course The Office. He's an interesting choice for one of Carell's big post-Office film projects, but it seems that they have a strong rapport together, which is as important a factor as any other in these things. With Carell making this alongside two dramas-- starring with Meryl Streep in Great Hope Springs and coping with loss in Dogs of Babel-- it'll be interesting to see how this fits in with the weightier stuff. |
