The Passion Of The Pope

Who would’ve thought back in the 90’s that someday I’d hate Mel Gibson? I guess Lethal Weapon 4 should have given me some inkling, but even that couldn’t have prepared me for his abandonment of head-butting in favor of becoming the next Pat Robertson. What, you thought Mel was stopping with The Passion? You would be wrong.

Always quick to jump on the religious fervor bandwagon, Gibson is set to turn the life story of Pope John Paul II into a movie according to Dark Horizons and “The New York Post”. Like an artist or a cancelled 80’s television show, JP2 is proving to be much more popular in death than he was in life. In life people just sat around waiting for him to drop dead, now that it’s happened suddenly everyone wishes he was alive again. It’s really unfair.

Mel has already gotten his project off to a kick start. Last week he sent a production crew to Rome to film the Pope’s funeral, further commercializing and cheapening the pontif’s death. I’m surprised Golden Palace didn’t get their logo out there somewhere. Where were the Nike commercial streakers?
