This is one of those rare times I wish I lived in California. Not a lot of advance screenings come out in my neck of the woods, and this is a documentary I’d really like to see. If you’re living in the Pasadena area, however, this news may be good for you.

Leslie Iwerks Productions has created a documentary looking at the history of everyone’s favorite animation studio, Pixar. Titled The Pixar Story, the movie has been made completely independently of Disney or Pixar. Utilizing archival footage, interviews, and art and animation, Leslie Iwerks looks at the development of Pixar since Ed Catmull, John Lasseter, and Steve Jobs first united in the mid ‘80s.

There’s currently an embargo on the film until the movie’s Fall release approaches, so you’re unlikely to read many reviews, but if you live near Pasadena, The Pixar Story is screening at the Pasadena Laemmle One Colorado Theater on Thursday, August 30th and Friday, August 31st. Each day holds two showings of the movie: one at 7:10pm and one at 8:45pm.

If you get a chance to see it, I’d be very curious to hear what you think. As a huge Pixar fan, I can’t wait to find out more of the company’s history, particularly in those early years when practically nobody knew who John Lasseter or Ed Catmull were.
