It looks like Rocky may be returning to the ring. I’m not talking about Sylvester Stallone though. Instead we’re discussing real boxer Rocky Marciano, who has had an authorized biopic optioned by Morris S. Levy’s M.E.G.A. Films.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, first time writer Terri Apple will adapt the boxer’s story, which was picked up from his family. The story will follow the undefeated Marciano from his blue-collar origins to his plane crash death. Along the way expect to see some boxing too. Marciano’s younger brother, Lou, has not only sold the rights to his brother’s story, but offered new details about Rocky’s life to Apple and Levy. The hope is that this officially authorized biopic will replace previously unauthorized versions of the boxer’s life, which the family has been less than happy with. "They didn't have any similarities to my brother. He was a very restless, impatient man -- very curious and bright, not your typical fighter from the streets." said Lou Marciano, referring to the 1979 made for TV movie that ran on ABC and Showtime’s 1999 version of the boxer’s life. This is one of those times you know writers have to hate Sylvester Stallone for taking the most obvious name for the picture. They can’t exactly call it Rocky now, can they? RELATED: biopic
