Last fall Olga Kurylenko seemed bound for greatness, appearing in Max Payne and Quantum of Solace within weeks of each other and boasting one of those faces that could very well launch a thousand ships. But then Max Payne turned out to be, uh, Max Payne, and no one, not even Bond himself, thought Kurylenko could wipe away the memory of Casino Royale's Eva Green.
But try and try again, they say, and now Kurylenko is hitching herself to Slumdog Millionaire producer Christian Colson for Centurion, a Roman-era thriller that's also starring Michael Fassbender (Hunger) and Dominic West (Jimmy McNulty from The Wire). Neil Marshall, maybe in an attempt to make up for Doomsday, is writing and directing, according to THR.
The story is the usual complex, sword-and-sandals thing you expect when characters are named Quntus Dias and General Virilus. Either West or Fassbender will be playing a Roman soldier who survives an attack from the evil Picts then marches with a legion sent to destroy them. I worry for Kurylenko, given the miniscule parts usually given to women in these movies, but if she held her own so well in Quantum of Solace I bet she'll be fine here. Who I'll really be looking forward to is Fassbender, who was so, so good in Hunger that he may be able to make something even this silly worth watching.
