The Ruins Of Little Shop![]()
Well, Rope of Silicon got my hopes up this morning with their story about a “’Little Shop of Horrors 2’ in Cancun?” story. I love both the original Corman tale and the musical that it inspired, and I’d be interested in seeing the story continue – especially considering the dismal ending the musical originally had before it was Hollywoodized for the movie.
No such luck, however. While the headline is catchy, there is no Little Shop sequel plans in the works (at least none known). Instead their story is about USA Today’s story on The Ruins. The villain of the Carter Smith film, which stars Jonathan Tucker, Laura Ramsey, Jena Malone, and Shawn Ashmore, is a plant; a sort of Venus flytrap, to be particular. Gee, that’s original. So, instead of a Little Shop sequel, it sounds like we’re getting a bit of a similar story, transplanted from Skid Row to the sunny hills of Cancun. Something tells me this is going to wind up a PG-13 flick aimed at bringing in the teenage crowd. With that in mind, who needs originality? To be fair, though, the story is based on the novel by Scott B. Smith (who also wrote the screenplay), so if there’s any “borrowing” from Little Shop it started before the movie. |
