The Spirit Gets Teased In New York![]()
New York Comic-Con attendees are getting a look at several new movie posters. We’ve already written about the Wanted Comic-Con poster, although that one is exclusive to the event and won’t be seen in theaters. Now AICN has a peek at one that’s being released at Comic-con but is the official teaser poster for the movie: Frank Miller’s The Spirit.
I love the noir feel to the poster, but I can’t help but feel like Miller is setting the picture up for failure. As a character, The Spirit isn’t exactly well known outside of the comic book crowd, and even some of them don’t know about Will Eisner’s creation. The teaser poster doesn’t really give much help and could just as easily be an ad for another Darkman movie as it is for The Spirit. Is this a nice piece of artwork? Definitely. I just wonder if Miller’s going to return to his jaded feeling about movies by the time The Spirit is done, especially if this winds up being a commercial disaster. Or maybe Miller is just making the movie he wants to make and audience results be damned. |
