The Transporter Is Supposed To Be Gay![]()
Maybe this is why the third Transporter was so much worse than the others: They forced Frank Martin to be hetero. Apparently, the character was originally supposed to be gay.
The guys at JoBlo discovered this story in which Lous Letterier, director of Transporter 2 claims that in his movie the Transporter is totally not into chicks. He says, “If you watch the movie and you know he's gay, it becomes so much more fun. It's so great -- the first gay action movie hero!” I watched the second movie, liked the second movie, and never caught that at all. I’m pretty sure no one else did either, though he did avoid actually getting involved with any of the pic's women. I’d always assumed it was just because he was too busy blowing things up. Plus, a great many of the film's most vivacious females were trying awfully hard to shoot him. Women don't typically try to murder gay men so much as they force them to go shopping with them. Since it was never very clear, they seemed to have tossed this idea out the window for the recently released Transporter 3. In it, Frank engages in significantly more than heavy petting with a heavily-freckled, scantily clad female. Why didn’t they let him out of the closet instead? Letterier has a theory. He says, “Action fans in general are pretty homophobic. You see these tough guys who say, ' "The Transporter," that's such a great movie!’ If they only knew they're really cheering for a new kind of action hero.” |
