The second film of the Twilight franchise was bigger than the first in nearly every way-- bigger budget, bigger effects, way bigger box office receipts. So it only makes sense to up the ante for the third. Summit Entertainment announced today that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will debut in IMAX when it goes into wide release on June 30, 2010.

“Twilight moviegoers will have a whole new way to experience this next installment of the series, with the enhanced image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience putting them IN the movie,” Summit's head of domestic distribution Richie Fay said in the press release. While New Moon focused on werewolf antics and a couple of mean-eyed vampires, Eclipse is apparently all about a battle between an evil pack of vampires and the other vampires and werewolves trying to protect humanity from it. Say what you will about the utter cheesiness of the franchise so far, but at least they've saved the most action-packed installment for IMAX.
