The Weekend Blend 12/10 – 12/12

12/10 – 12/12 New movies come out each weekend, many of them are not worth your time. Many of them are. So make a stop here before heading out to the theater to figure out which newly released, star-powered monstrosity you’ll be spending your money and possibly valuable potential dating time on. This is basically a two release weekend. Sure, some great stuff like The Life Aquatic is opening in a single theater somewhere on one of the all important coasts, but seriously, how does that impact Bob in South Dakota? It doesn’t. Let’s focus people.

Blade: Trinity (opened 12/08)
Blade: Trinity is a dissapointment. It isn't bad, just sort of ho hum, which to me is almost worst. This is likely to be the last entry in the Blade series, and if like me you've really loved the franchise up till now (And if you didn't then why the heck would you be seeing this?), it sucks that we're stuck with Blade: Trinity as our last legitimate memory of it. I'm going to suggest something: just avoid it. I know it's a new Blade movie and if I were in your shoes and hadn't already seen it, I'd be thinking to myself about how stupid the guy writing this is and how I'm going to see it no matter what because Blade rules... but trust me, just avoid it. Come on, you can do it. Let the greatness of Blade II be the way you remember something that was kind of cool for a bit. If you see Trinity you won't hate it, but you're not going to really like it. I can hear the deluded out there already lining up to make excuses for it. Just give it pass.

Ocean’s 12
If you’re into seeing movies about people with better lives than yours, Ocean’s 12 is for you. The Ocean’s series was and is by all accounts remaining basically just a bunch of rich pretty people having fun on a set. Luckily for us, these rich pretty people are also talented enough that in the midst of their having fun on the set, a good movie happens. Oceans 12 reunites the same old cast for some similar heist gags. The first movie became vastly overrated right before its release, but was a strong, entertaining flick regardless. I expect more of the same from Ocean’s 12, a movie that’ll probably end up in my head as “mostly harmless”. Mostly harmless isn’t a bad way to spend your movie weekend, and if you’re lucky the film won’t dwell to much on queen bitch Catherine Zeta Jones. Head out and see Clooney’s friends perform acting in Ocean’s 12.
