11/18 – 11/20 It's really no question, everyone on the planet will be going to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire this weekend. But seriously, spare a second from well-dressed wizards to look around you and see what else is opening this weekend. Your obsession is sickening.

Misc. Limited Releases (Opening in fewer than 500 theaters.)
For Breakfast on Pluto, Cillian Murphy stars as a transvestite caberet singer in the 1960's while Liam Neeson plays, a presumably dissaproving priest. Indie filmmakers and art snobs love nothing better than a good tranny movie. This is one of about a dozen that'll show up in art theaters this year. Skip all of them.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Opened in 3,858 theaters on Wed.)
The new Harry Potter movie looks great, and it's getting great reviews. Maybe it's lost some of its family friendly appeal with a grittier PG-13 rating, but the franchise just keeps getting better. This time Harry participates in a tournament and dances with girls. While Poor Ron ends up in a horrible outfit. Four movies in to the series, you'd think we'd all be getting sick of Potter by now, but so far they've kept each movie fresh, and different. It helps that they've brought in a new director for the past two, giving them a unique style apart from their predecessors. Let's just hope they can hang on to the cast for the next ones.

Walk the Line (Opens in 2,961 theaters.)
With Harry Potter overwhelming the public consciousness, there's a good chance that moviegoers will walk right past one of the best movies of the year. Twentieth Century Fox has picked a terrible weekend to debut Walk the Line, no doubt looking for success as Potter counter-programming. Counter-programming almost never works. If Walk the Line is going to get any attention it'll have to hang awhile and get great word of mouth from those of you wise enough to walk past the temptations of Harry Potter and see it. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon give Oscar worthy performances in the story of Johnny Cash and his second wife June Carter. Unlike Ray, the actors in this one are actually singing. That could be a bad thing, but Joaquin's performance as Cash is so dead on, his voice so eerily like that of the country music legend, that the difference is almost indistinguishable. Take a minute, put down your wand, and see one of the best movies of the year.
