There's Hope For I Am Legend![]()
Maybe there's hope for I am Legend after all. The rumors that the script had been gutted to turn the thing into a buddy picture in order to find a role for Johnny Depp have been slapped down, and maybe, just maybe there's still enough of the brilliant script I read so long ago to make this thing the masterpiece it might have been.
The good news comes courtesy of IESB where they say that Johnny Depp has never been involved in the film and never will be. The character he was supposed to play, a guy named "Philip" which so many sources were reporting had been shoehorned into the script, also never existed. He's not in the script now and he never was. Instead, we're left with the story as it was meant to be: the soul-searching tale of a lonely man, the last man on Earth, fighting to survive when he has no future and nothing left to live for. So hopefully Depp is out, but here's where things get really confusing. Today IESB and Blackfilm.com have run conflicting stories which say that Smith's love interest in the film, Anna, has been cast. The problem is that both sites say different people have the job. IESB claims that Gabrielle Union has the role, while BlackFilm says Alice Braga has the job Wait a minute, you're probably saying, if he's the last person on Earth where does she fit in? Don't worry folks, it all works out brilliantly in the script. As choices to repopulate the human race with go, Union (pictured to your right) is a good one. Braga on the other hand isn't exactly well known, though she did have a part in the acclaimed 2002 film City of God. We'll let you know which one (if either) it is once we know for certain. |
