They Live Remake Won't Have The Special Sunglasses?![]()
While on set of The Thing prequel, producer Marc Abraham revealed that another John Carpenter piece would be brought back: They Live. In the 1988 film, a drifter played by 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper finds a pair of sunglasses that show him that aliens have taken over the world. The image of the character putting on the sunglasses and revealing people's true nature is fairly iconic, but, sadly, it doesn't sound like it will be part of the remake.
io9 caught up with producer Eric Newman who revealed that the updated version might get rid of the sunglasses altogether in favor of something else. Instead, however, it "might be something different." The production has hired D.B. Weiss, who is credited as the creator of the HBO show Game of Thrones, which will premiere next year, but, because of his schedule, the script is still a few months away. The change is being suggested because they don't believe that a "vagrant wandering around the streets" could get someone to put on a pair of sunglasses. This really doesn't make any sense. If you're going to completely destroy the basis for a film, why bother remaking it? At least with The Thing prequel they are staying true to the original source material. It also needs to be said that if they even think about altering the fight sequence, there's going to be hell to pay. |
