I very rarely get excited about movies anymore. It’s really a sad predicament, but I assume it’s just a byproduct of getting older. When you’re a little kid, everything is attention grabbing and intriguing. As a seven year old, I could have played with my Bret “The Hitman” Hart action figure for hours or watched The Mighty Ducks five times in a row, but sadly, those childish days of wonder and woe have mostly passed. Thankfully, though, every once in a while, that feeling of anticipation and glee briefly returns over an upcoming movie trailer, and I vault right back to my pre-pubescent state of fanboydom. This is one of those times.
A few weeks ago, Cinema Blend brought you two separate articles on the recently completed Philip Seymour Hoffman film Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead. It was having trouble getting distribution; however, The Hollywood Reporter has recently revealed that the drug drama has been picked up by Think Film. You probably know them better as one of the few distributers who actually provide viewing audiences with worthwhile titles.
Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead follows a drug addict (Hoffman) who, along with his brother (Ethan Hawke), decides to rob the store of his father (Albert Finney). The underhanded scheme goes horribly awry, and both Hoffman’s accomplice and his mother end up dead. All hell soon breaks loose, and Marisa Tomei’s top falls off at some point. Is there anything that could possibly peak my excitement more? Oh yeah, it’s also directed by Oscar winner Sidney Lumet (12 Angry Men, Murder On The Orient Express). This gorgeous piece of cinematic greatness opens on October 17th in select cities and expands to more markets a few weeks later. I can’t wait.
