If Superman Returns is the bright, shining standard for what superhero movies can become, then the trailer for Tim Allen's upcoming superhero academy comedy Zoom represents the movie farthest from.
I'm not discounting it because it's a movie about the training of super-kids. I think Sky High proved that a movie like that, done right, can really work. But watch the trailer and you'll see what I mean. The effects are cheap and poorly thought out, the plot looks like something scribbled on the back of a napkin in crayon by someone's ten-year-old daughter. If the movie works, it'll only be because Tim Allen has somehow transformed himself into a heroic, comedy god.
Maybe it's just the low quality format from Hollywood.com that we're being forced to watch it in. Maybe this will look better on the big screen, or in HD Quicktime. Let's hope so.
