Todd Phillips has been on a greenlighting roll ever since The Hangover started minting money for Warner Bros. The latest project going forward with his name attached won't be directed by him, but rest assured that Phillips' name on Staycation is what's propelling that movie. Warner Bros. has picked Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay to handle the screenplay, a male-driven comedy with a plot that's otherwise being kept under wraps.
I'm not sure why they feel the need to make a story called Staycation secret, since that word-- coined for people who ditch vacations due to the recession-- suggests a whole story of its own. But that's all Variety got, so it's what we've got. Manfredi and Hay were also rewriters on Man-Witch, the comedy that recently had both Phillips and Zach Galifianakis attached, but has been ditched by them in favor of the road trip comedy Due Date. Phillips will still produce that film, and keeps passing work on to Manfredi and Hay. Way to spread that Hangover wealth.
