Old School and School for Scoundrels director Todd Phillips is planning a Russian bride comedy with Warner Bros. Originally the film was set up with Miramax, but they've since dumped it, allowing Todd to move it over to the WB where he has a first look deal anyway.
The movie is based on a 2002 article by David Benioff published in Arena magazine called "Goodbye to Romance". Benioff's article was about a group of American men who travel Russia looking for babes to make their brides. An early treatment of it was written by E. Max Frye, but Variety says someone else will likely now be brought in to touch it up.
The material sounds perfect for Phillips, who has made his name off of movies about men behaving badly. Of course there's no guarantee he'll actually direct it. The movie is simply attached to his production company. He could always hand it off to someone else, though if he wants to direct he'll get first crack at it.
