Okay, now I really don’t like Knight and Day. The promo material has been subpar and there’s something about the Cameron Diaz/Tom Cruise team up that’s just totally unappealing. Now it’s even more unlikely I’ll catch it when it hits theaters, because the film I’ve been picking on ever since the first poster hit the web pulled a fast one on me.

The marketing team took advantage of the World Cup craze and released a video of the film’s stars taking a soccer break. It starts out as a simple passing back and forth, but then gets into more difficult footwork with both Cruise and Diaz pulling off some impressive tricks. The constant refocusing made me rethink the material, but not enough to totally doubt its authenticity. Then our own Eric Eisenberg was nice enough to point that there certainly is some shady business going on here and it’s something I completely overlooked. I’ll let you figure it out for yourself.

Knight and Day: 1, Perri: 1. (I think I deserve a point for pointing out the phallic poster.) The showdown comes to a dramatic conclusion when the film hits theaters on the 23rd.
