Tom Cruise In Talks To Play Jack Reacher In One Shot![]()
I've always felt that Christopher McQuarrie's The Way of the Gun is a tad bit underrated. While certainly not a perfect film, it features some great performances, is filled with great action sequences and has an opening scene that I will never forget for the rest of my life ("Shut that cunt's mouth or I'll come over there and fuckstart her head!"). This appreciation has led to a certain level of bewilderment, as the movie came out in 2000 but McQuarrie hasn't directed a film since. Fortunately he's now getting an opportunity for a sophomore effort and is close to landing a huge name to star.
Deadline reports that Tom Cruise has entered talks to star as Jack Reacher in One Shot, an adaptation of the Lee Child book that McQuarrie is set to direct. The ninth book in Childs' series, the book begins with a sniper firing off six shots and killing five workers in an office building in Indiana and Reacher comes in to investigate. Should Cruise sign on, he will make the film before production on Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion begins in January. The project would represent the second time that McQuarrie and Cruise have worked together, the former scripting Valkyrie in which the latter starred. There's one standout detail here that is going to seriously piss off a lot of Jack Reacher fans. While Cruise is a veteran action star and can get physical when he needs to, he's only 5'7", and in the books Reacher is described as being, 6'5," and around 250 pounds. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that they don't make lifts that big. |
