Tom Cruise is proving incredibly resilient these days. Who cares that he’s no longer in Edwin A. Salt (and that the part is actually having a sex change now, meaning Cruise is competing with Angelina Jolie for roles). So what if Valkyrie continues to get delayed and pushed back. For anyone else, it would be enough to get them to give up for a while and take a long vacation. Instead, Tom Cruise is becoming The Tourist.
Hollywood Reporter ran the announcement that Cruise has entered negotiations to play the lead in a remake of the French spy film, The Tourist. The film follows an American tourist used as a pawn in a battle between spies, and the remake will be directed by Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day). If Cruise signs on, it’s expected this will be the next movie the actor will go into production on, despite the possibility of joining Food Fight as reported earlier in the week.
You have to give Cruise some credit for keeping his career alive and somehow finding people to hire him continually, despite his Scientology crazy talk. His career may not be at the top right now, but I’d rather see him revitalize it through new roles like his comedic cameo in Tropic Thunder or new venutes like The Tourist than yet another Mission: Impossible movie.
