Tom Cruise Will Be Acting Forever![]()
Though Tom Cruise is out promoting Valkyrie not only as the star, but the head of the studio that's distributing it, he wants to assure you that there's no second career waiting in the wings. Unlike any number of actors right now, including ex-wife Nicole Kidman, he's not threatening to leave his day job behind.
"I am an actor first and foremost," he said at a press conference today for Valkyrie. "I'm going to do this for the rest of my life." Cruise has a long history as a producer, going back to the first Mission: Impossible film, and says his work as a head of United Artists is just an extension of that. "It's not just having talent, making film, it's important also to know to surround yourself with great people. I've got very good people that I work with." And that includes Bryan Singer, who directed Valkyrie and sat in with Cruise at today's excellent press conference. I'll have the rest of what they said posted later this week, as well as a review of Valkyrie, which I'm not allowed to write about yet. But I don't think they'll mind me telling you to ignore the bad hype; Valkyrie is a really solid, entertaining thriller, exactly the kind of movie we ought to have been expecting from the super-talented Singer. And Cruise, as always, is great, a movie star through and through. Good to know he won't be leaving that part of his life behind. |
