Toy Story 3 Has A Huge Friday, Could Be Biggest Animated Movie Of All Time
Amazing news for the movie which our readers are calling Pixarís best ever. Box Office Mojo reports that Toy Story 3 made a stunning $41 million at the box office on Friday. To put that number in perspective, itís the biggest opening for any animated movieÖ ever.
It made that money in more than 4,028 locations. 2,463 of those were in 3D and the price difference probably helped. And it canít hurt that itís being released on Father Day weekend. As a soon to be Dad, I canít think of any better way to spend it than by taking your kids to Toy Story 3. But I suspect that what really helped was being Pixar, being Toy Story, and being really, really good. Itís one of the best reviewed movies of all time, and as it stands, Toy Story 3 seems a lock to be not only the highest grossing Pixar movie of all time, but maybe even the biggest box office smash of 2010.
The previous Pixar record was held by The Incredibles which opened with a $70.4 million weekend. Toy Story 3 has already made more than half of that in a single day. Itíll easily gross well over $100 million, by the time the final weekend totals drift out into the ether on Sunday. If it breaks $100 million, itíll only be the third animated movie in history to do so. The other two are Shrek the Third and Shrek 2. To become the biggest animated movie of all time, Toy Story 3 will have to beat Shrek the Thirdís $121.6 million opening weekend.
