Last week Sony invited me to their Wonder Technology Lab to check out the new trailer for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, their 3D-animated take on one of my most beloved childhood books. And while the trailer has since gone online, it was both a pleasure to see the trailer on the big screen, and with an audience full of delighted children who had somehow gotten out of school to come see a beloved book come to life.
The movie seems to be aiming at a comedic tone somewhere between straight-up silly and sentimental, and most of the laughs (from both adults and kids) came from the sight gags, from TV robot chasing citizens down the street to the giant pancake going splat on top of an elementary school. Check out the trailer for yourself at the official website, and just try and tell me it doesn't bring a twinge of childish joy to your heart. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs comes out in the United States on September 18.
