The first trailer for Meet Dave is here. It stars Eddie Murphy as an alien spaceship which looks a lot like a human, and it also stars Eddie Murphy as the human-shaped spaceships miniature captain who pilots his Eddie-vehicle from inside its head. Confused? Don’t worry about it, judging from the trailer it’s a lot like that episode of Pinky and the Brain where the Brain builds as robot who looks like a human and drives it from inside the head. Animaniacs? Anyone?
Alright if you haven’t seen Animaniacs you’re probably going to see this and think of Innerspace, and while the plot is somewhat different the special effects seem similar. Except Innerspace was made in 1987 and you’d think that at some point in the 20 years since someone might have figured out a way to do shrinking effects better. Apparently not.
Or maybe you saw the classic, unused pilot for an early 90s TV show called Micro Cops, which used pretty much the same plot as well. What I’m getting at here is that this isn’t exactly the most original idea, it’s just that this time it has Eddie Murphy in it and, somewhat inexplicably, Bee Gees music. Enjoy the trailer:
