The John Cusack movie I’m most looking forward to this year is 1408, but he’s got others. The most sappy of the bunch is probably The Martian Child, which seems kind of like a completely unfunny version of Adam Sandler’s Big Daddy. I guess that makes them exactly the same movie.
The Martian Child is a romantic drama in which Cusack plays a recently widowed science fiction writer who adopts a boy in a box. The boy is in a box, because he claims to be from Mars. Actually, I guess that makes this more like K-Pax, than Big Daddy, doesn’t it?

This movie looks to be one of the best dramas about platonic love between two beings ever made. I have read the book and I think that the movie (although slightly different) looks to be equally captivating and empathetically engaging in any audience member who has a heart. There is nothing more amazing and heartfelt than the love for a caregiver to a child. Not even romantic love. The reason being that romantic love is about loving someone whose love can be lost via dishonesty. But the love for a child, the TRUE and PURE love for a child can never be lost, it will always remain. As Cusack's character David says to his son Dennis in the trailer, "There is nothing you could ever do that could make me change the way I feel about you."
