National Lampoon announced a little while ago that they would start distributing their own films, and stop diluting their brand with straight-to-DVD crap and the occasional straight-to-theaters crap. Now they’ll be releasing Homo Erectus come June, and it seems that promise about no longer releasing crap was, well, a load of crap. Apparently filmed well before 10,000 B.C. came out (it was supposed to be released last fall), the movie still appears to be a Scary Movie-style direct ripoff of the caveman hit, with something like the intelligence of a caveman as well.
You can see for yourself with the movie’s new trailer below. It’s kind of remarkable, actually, how they’ve managed to make the movie look like a 10,000 B.C. parody, given that if you watch an earlier trailer on YouTube, it looks like a totally different movie. Not bad editing, but probably another guarantee that it will disappoint fans—even the people who go in looking for a mindless parody will be let down. Well, at least the trailer promises plenty of Ali Larter wearing skimpy cavewoman clothing—if you’re in to that kind of thing.
National Lampoon, you are the people who brought us some of the funniest comedies of the 80s. Why do you have to treat us this way?

Did they blackmail Ali Larter into being in this? They had to have. Either that or she needs to fire her agent.
