Attention, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences! There is a movie coming out in your favorite season, the fall, that features oh-so-many of your favorite things. Mental illness! Talented musicians! A man who needs to rediscover himself with the help of a slightly magical person! People crying! Classical music! Pretty cinematography! Oh, and Jamie Foxx playing a musical instrument!
All of these things and more are part of The Soloist, the movie based on a series of articles in The Los Angeles Times, written when a journalist (Robert Downey, Jr.)befriended a homeless man (Foxx) who turned out to be a Juilliard-trained musician. It's directed by Joe Wright, who has made such Oscar bait as Pride & Prejudice and Atonement in the past.
Check out the first trailer below, from Yahoo Movies which showcases the movie's gorgeous cinematography and what might turn out to be some really great performances from Downey, Jr. and Foxx. If that's the case, I'll be able to forgive the movie for so blatantly grabbing for an Oscar.
