I’m a huge stand-up comedy fan. Actually, huge is probably an understatement. I am a massive enthusiast. There’s quiet possibly nothing more difficult than getting on stage and attempting to make hundreds of people laugh who have never met you. It’s truly an amazing art form. Unfortunately, the vast majority of comedians who do get famous are borderline hacks who pander to the audience to get the easy laugh, rather than perfectly crafting each and every joke. Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau are two exceptions. They made their mark on Hollywood through hilarious improvisation and original, funny material. Sadly, the trailer for Vince Vaughn’s new stand-up movie Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show, is filled mostly with obvious and cliche ridden jokes.

I’m not writing this film off yet, as Hollywood has a tendency to appeal to the least common denominator when making trailers, but after viewing this teaser I am far less excited than I initially was. It opens with a Girls Gone Wild reference that even an early Adam Sandler would have discarded, and it snowballs downhill from there with awkward audience bantering and even a Bon Jovi reference. There is one hilarious bit with Jon Favreau and Justin Long impersonating Trent from Swingers, but one laugh in a minute and a half long stand-up featurette is less than impressive.

Here’s a copy of the Yahoo Trailer here. Watch it for yourself and make up your own mind. My affinity for stand-up will definitely force me to see this, but I’m definitely not going to endorse it for the average person. If you’re really interested in checking out some hilarious comedy, though, I’d recommend When Stand-Up Stood Out or The Aristocrats. Both of those standup films are more than worth a rental.
