Frank Darabon’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist has had me interested since it was first announced. Now we’re getting closer to the release date and I have to admit that interest has been waning. Without much information being released about the movie, I was starting to worry that perhaps this wasn’t up to Darabont’s normal level of quality.

Well, worry be gone! The trailer for The Mist has arrived online and it’s definitely a cause for hope. While the mysterious Mist looks awesome in the trailer, it’s clear that Darabont is also focusing heavily on the struggle of the people trapped inside the grocery store when the Mist appears. The struggle in the short story has a lot to do with beliefs and rallying power among those trapped there based on that, and the trailer makes it clear that’s a strong part of Darabont’s film as well.

All is not just philosophical battles, however. There’s also an indication of the special effects we can expect to see in the movie, including some of the Mist’s inhabitants. Most of these shots look cool, although I’m a little concerned about the last one of the tentacle, which looks like it needs some polishing. Here’s hoping they used an unfinished effect and the final movie will look a little better.
