We can't bring you gold every week. Today's batch of Trailer Trash contains one ass kicking brilliant trailer (starring Ben Affleck no less), and then a bunch of crap you should make it a point to miss. Unless of course you're into murder porn, which is just about the only way to describe Eli Roth's Hostel flicks. Watch trailers for Smokin Aces, Hostel: Part II, the new fantasy film Bridge to Terabithia, and as a bonus the directorial debut of Chasing Amy's Joey Lauren Adams.
Smokin' Aces
It's the new ensemble heist movie from director Joe Carnahan. A Mob boss takes out a hefty contract on Buddy "Aces" Israel (Piven)--a sleazy magician who has agreed to turn state's evidence against the Vegas mob. The FBI places Aces into protective custody-under the supervision of two agents. When word of the price on Aces' head spreads into the community of ex-cons and cons-to-be, it entices bounty hunters, thugs-for-hire, smokin' hot vixens and double-crossing mobsters to join in the hunt. The cast is genius and the trailer may be one of the best I've seen in months. This movie just oozes cool. It's been too long since we've had a good heist flick.
Hostel: Part II
In Eli Roth's latest orgasm of gore porn, three young Americans studying in Rome set off for a weekend trip when they run into a beautiful model from one of their art classes. Also on her way to an exotic destination, the gorgeous European invites the coeds to come along, assuring them they will be able to relax and rejuvenate. Guess what? They don't find the oasis they're looking for. Instead the end up victims for hire in the fantasies of rich sickos from around the world. There's really no excuse for the popularity of this shit, and this first teaser for it doesn't really try to offer one. Actually, it doesn't offer much of anything.
Bridge to Terabithia
Based on the book by Katherine Paterson and Donna Diamond, it's the story of a fifth grader named Jesse Aaron who hopes to become the fastest runner in his class, only to be beaten by a girl! Jesse and Leslie soon become friends and discover a magical kingdom in the forest where they rule as king and queen. The first full trailer for it is nearly as bad as that description. It's heavy on CGI fantasy characters and low on atmosphere or anything even remotely resembling cool.
Come Early Morning
As long as Smokin' Aces has everyone thinking bearded Ben Affleck, now seems like a good time to bring up the new movie from the girl he once chased away from lesbianism for Kevin Smith, Joey Lauren Adams. Come Early Morning will be her directorial and writing debut, and while it's not exactly my cup of tea, if you've got enough estrogen flowing through your veins maybe it's worth a look.
