Death has rarely influenced what characters return for a movie’s sequel. Spock died in Star Trek II and the central point of the next movie was about bringing him back. I still haven’t forgiven the Highlander franchise for their crap excuse to bring back Sean Connery. That’s why it was a huge surprise for fans when Michael Bay announced that fan favorite Transformer Jazz wouldn’t be appearing in the planned sequel, having met his robotic maker in the first film.
Bay may not have been completely honest with fans. tfw2005 reports that a certain Pontiac Solstice arrived on the set for Transformers 2 this week. On top of that, Jazz’s voice, actor Darius McCrary is also on set. It would appear the Autobot special ops ‘bot will be making a return in some fashion. This actually makes some sense since the mobile phone video game based on the movie had the character brought back to life.
Also returning for the sequel will be Josh Duhamel and Jon Turturro, reprising their roles as Captain Lennox and Agent Simmons respectively. That news comes through The Hollywood Reporter, who also recently confirmed the addition of Rainn Wilson to the cast.
Is it just me or is this cast getting overstuffed? This was a problem the first movie suffered from as well. Fans don’t care about the human side of the movie, they just want the robots. Bay would do well to figure this out finally and forget about putting big names in roles nobody cares about anyway.
