Transformers 3, Super 8 And More Paramount Films In IMAX This Summer![]()
Even though J.J. Abrams is avoiding the great gimmicky scourge of 3D for his next, mysterious film Super 8, there's still going to be a way to pay extra to see the movie. Paramount and IMAX announced today that four of the studio's 2011 movies will play in the giant format, and Super 8-- despite having no sequences actually filmed with the IMAX camera-- will be one of them. Also on the list are Transformers: Dark of the Moon, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and Mission: Impossible-- Ghost Protocol; director Brad Bird actually used IMAX cameras for some sequences on that last one, so it might be the most worth shelling out for when it hits theaters December 16.
Transformers and Tintin will also be shown in 3D, having been shot in the format as well, so you can look forward to $20 tickets for those when they come out on July 1 and December 28, respectively. Here's the rest of the press release, complete with the glowing quotes from Paramount and IMAX about how great a deal this is. We'll be around throughout the summer to see for ourselves and let you know if it's worth shelling out too. IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ:IMAX; TSX:IMX) today announced an agreement with Paramount Pictures to release four of the studio’s tentpole releases in 2011 – Super 8, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. Each film will open day-and-date in IMAX® theatres worldwide. Sony Pictures Entertainment is co-production partner on The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) will handle distribution and marketing in most key territories overseas. |
