Everyone always talks about funny as the predominant Super Bowl advertising adjective, but as game day movie trailers go, grandiosity also works. Case in point: the new thirty second spot for Transformers 3. Quick, loud and explosive, the commercial is really a sight to behold. Not that we've come to expect anything less from the Michael Bay-directed franchise. Say what you will about its storytelling, the Transformers visuals have always been a wonder.

At one hundred thousand dollars a second, you'd hope the preview wouldn't dawdle, but marvel at how it uses every second economically. The score is jarring and chaotic, the movements are frenzied and hard to place in the grander story arc. This trailer is impossible to turn from. In case you missed it, or if you just want to see it again, here's a look…

I wasn't very excited by the first two movies. Hell, I'll probably hate this one, but as TV spots go, this is one of the best I've seen. You have to keep in mind the Super Bowl is about putting a show. It's about entertaining. It's not about making people think. Michael Bay is an entertainer, and if the film is even half as good as this advertisement, viewers will be very pleased.
