Turn That Frown Upside Down Arrested Development Fans!![]()
It’s back to the model home for the Bluths! Jeffrey Tambor sounds mighty convincing as he demands that the Arrested Development film is, indeed, happening. Tambor tells fans: Keep your hopes up! How sweet. Does he know that we’ve been waiting two years for this? Does he remember that, originally, we were hoping that the show would stay on the air?
Desperate fans of a television show crying out for a film can sometimes create good movie-making, as in the case of Serenity, and other times just desperate movie-making, as in the case of Sex in the City: The Movie. Either way, if you are a fan of Arrested Development, the time is now. You can still be afraid that they will ruin the texture of the show, but excitement is appropriate! Jeffrey Tambor told Collider.com that he’s talked to the creator of the show, Mitchell Hurwitz, and that the film is on. “We’re doing it. We are going. It’s a go. Yeah, actually, just this week I talked to Mitch Hurwitz… When the writer calls you, and the director and the executive producer calls you, it’s a good time.” The interviewer apparently went into a mini conniption of excitement in reaction to this loaded announcement and Tambor declaratorily demanded “Get your hopes up! That’s what hopes are for, by the way, to get up” raising his arms gospel-preacher style. Tambor can dance and bestow nuggets of wisdom upon dot com reporters all he wants. That’s lovely, it is. But, it still sounds like Hollywood talk to me. He spoke to the executive producer, who speaks to the writer who spoke to…etc. We’ve been hearing about hopes of a film since Arrested Development bowed in ’06. Yes, it does sound like optimism is in order, its true. But, until production begins I will remain a skeptic. I guess I’m still bitter about the show going off the air. I guess I could muster up a little excitement. As Tambour exclaims at the end of the interview “Get your hopes up!” . Alright, already. |
