Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 Is Getting An Extended Edition DVD/Blu-ray Release

A little more than a year after The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 was released on DVD/Blu-ray, Summit is distributing an extended edition of the first part of the final installment in the vampire franchise. It features eight minutes of never-before-scene footage selected by the director and added back into the movie, along with optional audio commentary.

Fans are likely to be eager to hear word of the release of Breaking Dawn - Part 2, which is still playing in some theaters. In the meantime, perhaps 8 more minutes of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, the film that saw Bella and Edward tie the knot, will tide them over. Yahoo posted the press release with the announcement about the Part 1 extended edition, and the video below.

Now with eight minutes of new and extended scenes added back into the film by Director Bill Condon, along with his optional audio commentary, fans can delve deeper into the epic series they adore. Experience the timeless romance and drama in a whole new way when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 Extended Edition, featuring the original theatrical version and the all-new extended edition with optional audio commentary from the director, arrives on Blu-ray Disc and DVD for the suggested retail price of $29.99 and $22.98, respectively.

Some Twilight fans might consider this a treat, particularly because the extended edition will give them 8 minutes of "new" Twilight to enjoy between March 2 and whenever the second part arrives on DVD/Blu-ray (assuming that's set for some time after March 2). But I wouldn't blame fans who might be frustrated by this new release, if they've already shelled out the money for Part 1 on DVD or Blu-ray. Eight additional minutes of content might not be enough to get some fans to go out and buy the movie all over again a year or so after they bought it the first time around. Perhaps if they paired it with Breaking Dawn - Part 2 as a two-movie set, or a box set with all five movies, those extra eight minutes might seem like a bit more of an incentive to re-purchase the movie.

With The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 winding down in theaters, hopefully Summit will give fans an update on the plans for the DVD/Blu-ray release in the near future.
