I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but there’s this movie called Twilight opening this weekend. It’s probably not any good, in fact it looks like a direct-to-DVD castoff, but it’s fans are so addicted to the books that they’re lining up to see it in droves. In fact, the thing is already selling out.
According to data released by Fandango, more than 500 midnight showings of Twilight are already sold out. Bear in mind that it’s late Monday and the first showing won’t even start until the wee hours of Friday morning. Anyone thinking of walking up and buying a ticket, forget it. They’ll be gone. 86% of all tickets being sold on Fandango right now are being sold to Twilight fans, or as the folks on our podcast dubbed them this weekend: “Twekkies”.
The Twekkies will be out to see this thing in force on Friday. The question is… will anyone else? The trailers look terrible and I don’t know anyone who hasn’t read the books who’s even remotely interested in seeing it. A $30 million opening Friday is nice, but a $2 million Saturday not so much. Most people are expecting Bolt to get trounced by opening against the Twilf legions this weekend, but there may still be a window here for Disney’s newest classic to sneak past the vampires into number 1.

Still look like a direct-to-DVD castoff, Josh? LOL...I saw this movie on the 29th with a friend. We are both females (one married, one single) in our late thirties and have never read the books. We're going again this weekend and I had to order the books online since EVERY SINGLE STORE I have gone to is sold out! We are completely hooked. Enough said.
I saw the movie and it's like the book. It's actually really good n they used alot of the lines from the book. So first watch the movie then give ur opinion. My boyfriend watche it with me and he even liked it alot and he's not a fan of these types of movies.
Josh, if you read the book I think you would be thoroughly surprised as I was about the storyline and how captivating it really is. I once scoffed at the idea of a vampire action romance novel when I first heard about it and utterly refused to read it thinking that as a 22 year old I was too old for such books...until one day I read it out of sheer boredom and was instantly hooked! Every single one of my friends that I have raved to about Twilight, too, have been ever so hesitant about reading the book when I recommended it to them...but when they read the book they were instantly hooked too. I think that the movie is a lot better than you give it credit for, and will do a lot better at the box office than you think.
Chicks across the nation are going to be giving it up in the name of Edward Cullen come Friday and Saturday night post-screening. Guys figured this out with Titanic, even though they hated that movie too. Leo reved the engines of many a girl and their dates reaped the Jack-coitus-by-proxy effect. I'm just saying...if I was a guy, I'd ask the girl of my dreams out on Friday night--and let Edward Cullen work his sexual voodoo on her for ya!
i totally agree with lol. Josh Tyler, you dont really know what you are talking about becuase 1st, i bet you havent even read the books to critizise them, and 2nd, the movie is not even out yet so you dont even know if its good or bad. with all the respect that you deserve, i think that you are not a reliable source becuase you are biased in the typical "manly" and ignorant way of thinking that guys have to be tough and all that... and no im not an angry 13 year old little girl in fact i am a young adoult that is sharing her opinion!!!
You're a dude, that's why you don't know anyone who wants to see it! Every married broad I know is dragging their husband to see it whether they want to or not, and every coupled broad I know is bringing her SO to see it this weekend. Not Friday--cause we know all the teenage broads will be there in droves. But Saturday? That's coerced "date night" for many a older-than-teen-broad and their hostage/boyfriend/husband. And these same broads will be going again the next week with friends/hostages as well. Twilight fans are like Mormon missionaries--we don't sleep until we've converted a soul a day!
