Twilight Sequels Set In Motion

By Josh Tyler: 2008-11-14 02:33:23
We’ve known this was coming, but now it’s confirmed. HR reports that Summit Entertainment is moving forward on making sequels to Twilight, based on the next three books in Stephanie Meyer’s vampire series.

The books in question are New Moon, Eclipse, and the recently published finale Breaking Dawn. Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has already been brought in to work on scripts for New Moon and Eclipse. Breaking Dawn will have to wait.

Some had thought Summit might wait to see how the first movie performs before spending on the sequels, but with the out of control buzz building around this thing, it makes sense that they’d snap them up now before some other savvy studio managed to outbid them. Of course if Twilight somehow tanks, they’ll probably never get made, but now they own the rights and they’re ready to go if and when the first movie pulls in the huge initial box office everyone seems to be expecting.

The books all tell the love story of an average teenage girl named Bella and a vampire named Edward. Their fans are legion, and mostly female. I have so far managed to avoid being forced to read any of them, but the lovely ladies of the CB Forum call them emotion porn, and all seem to feel a little guilty over the way they end up slavering over them. What’s porn, emotional or otherwise, without a little guilt?

  • ohh lord!!!
wht books are the CB Fourm reading.
I have to disagree with everyone about it being like porn(emotional porn).
the books are nothing like that, and it's about love.
true love, you don't have to have sexaul descriptions in a book to make it a love story.
stephanie meyer does it in a respectful way(marriage), bella & edward's sex life is thier bussiness.
she doesn't get in to much detail of everything. she is not trying to make a porno.
  • I am so excited that they picked up the next 3 books because they deserve to be made. My brother is who is a heterosexual 17 year old boy loves the book also. It really is an amazing story and one that you could get lost for hours. Something about the way Stephenie writes that causes you to become obsessed about it. It doesn't matter what you do, you can't stop thinking about Edward and Bella. You just fall in love with all the characters.
  • Josh, my dear, dear boy,
I've "heard that tone of voice" before. Yes, there are more female readers of the Twilight series than male, but I guarantee the numbers are not as lopsided as you might think. We ladies are just more outspoken and eager to share a good read than the fellas. After all, what normal heterosexual twenty year old young man would ever confess to reading a romance novel? Especially one about vampires! The high school in my town is filled with boys who have read these books. Many of the male teachers have read these books. My friends' husbands, as well as my own, have read these books. (What man can pass up the chance to find out what makes his wife tick? Yeah, that's what we'll call it--tick.) From all of these males I have heard one so-so review. Each and every one of the others have thoroughly enjoyed them. They just don't broadcast it.
Yes, they are like porn without sex, but only because Stephenie Meyer writes so amazingly. Her writing is so descriptive that you could almost believe that this version of reality exists somewhere in a parallel universe. Several times I caught myself referring to a scene in the story instead of a chapter. She writes the movie in your head better than any author I have ever read. So don't let yourself be "forced" to read them. Do it voluntarily. Unless you're afraid you'll like it....
