I'll just come out and say it: "action movie poster designer" may be the simplest job on the planet. Step 1) Get all of your stars together in "ducks fly together" formation with the more popular actors out in front. Step 2) Have characters hold weapons to indicate to audiences that there will be plenty of shooting and explosions. Step 3) Have the villain present, but not the focus of the poster. Step 4) Finally, drench the whole thing in shadows with drops of bright color to attract the eye. Congratulations! You've just contributed to the bland world of movie marketing.

IMP Awards has put up two new posters from the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators and while one follows this tried-and-true formula, the other just goes for the simple profile shot (which we've also seen before). Perhaps some day we'll see creativity emerge from this department of the film industry, but until then, we'll just have to see more posters like these.
